The difference a small-dog-only space makes

Not every daycare is right for every dog. Kuri City was built for one specific dog: yours.

  • No large dogs, ever Every dog in our daycare is a small breed. No size mismatch, no intimidation, no risk of your Cavoodle being knocked over by a dog three times their size.
  • The same familiar team, every day Your dog is greeted by the same faces each visit. Consistency reduces anxiety and builds the kind of trust that makes daycare genuinely enjoyable.
  • Expert care in every interaction Our team includes a Dog Psychology certificate holder, a BSc Zoology graduate, and a certified vet nurse with 26 years of experience. The expertise shows.

What Christchurch dog owners say

Ron and pearl love Kuri, they come home so happy and I can see what they are up to over social media. I feel content entrusting my little babies with the staff and I know they are safe and loved. My dogs mean the world to me and knowing that they are having the best time at kuri makes me so happy

Louisa Bromley

I am very happy with Kuri's grooming services. Leo comes away looking so handsome and happy. Shannon is so good with him and is happy to adjust any grooming to Leo's needs.

Paula Leanne

I've been a KURI client for 5 years, across the full range of their services. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, their products are high quality, and the trainers and groomers adapt to my dog's preferences and personality.

Common Questions

Your questions, answered.

Straight answers for Christchurch small dog owners considering daycare, grooming, raw food, training, and walking.

Is your daycare suitable for my large dog?

No. Kuri City's daycare is built exclusively for small breeds. This is not a policy we make exceptions to — it is the core reason small dog owners choose us.

There are no large dogs on the premises during daycare hours. If you have a large dog, our grooming, training, and walking services are open to all breeds and sizes.

What counts as a small breed?

Generally, dogs under 15 kg. Common breeds in our daycare include Cavoodle, Maltese, Shih Tzu, Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Bichon Frise, Miniature Schnauzer, and similar small breeds.

If you are unsure whether your dog is suitable, call us on (03) 355 5874 and we can talk it through before booking a meet and greet.

Does my dog need a meet and greet before starting daycare?

Yes. Every new daycare dog comes in for a relaxed meet and greet before their first day. It gives us a chance to understand your dog's temperament, introduce them to the space, and make sure daycare is the right fit for them.

Not every dog suits daycare — and we think it is important to be honest about that from the start. If daycare is not the right match, we can talk through walking or pop-in visits as an alternative.

Can I buy raw food without being a daycare customer?

Yes. The raw food shop at shop.kuri.co.nz is available to anyone. You can order online and choose same-day delivery in Christchurch, overnight delivery to the rest of the South Island, or pick up in-store at 473 St Asaph Street.

Our team is happy to help you choose the right blend in-store if you are new to raw feeding.

How do I book?

Call us on (03) 355 5874 or email [email protected] to book daycare, grooming, training, or walking.

For grooming, we recommend booking 2-3 weeks ahead as Shannon's schedule fills quickly. Raw food is available any time at shop.kuri.co.nz with no booking required.
